Travel Tips for Aegean Region
Kusadasi is the best place to base yourself for exploring the ancient cities around region. Ephesus is
accessible by a 30 minute drive or less from Kusadasi. The three classic cities of Dydima, Miletus and
Priene are also accesible with day trips.
Plan on staying one day
in either Canakkale or Bergama if you will visit Troy and Pergamon.
Marmaris and Bodrum, do have
many similarities but also some important difference. Forest scenery and nature is much better in Marmaris.
Bodrum has a very lively nightlife and many surrounding villages offering a relaxed vacation.
Izmir is best in transit or if you would like
to see all of the major sites both north and south and would like to base yourself in just one city.
There are tours to Pamukkale from
many of the major cities, Bodrum, Kusadasi, Marmaris, Izmir.
It is a good idea to rent a jeep in Bodrum and Marmaris
to visit the surounding towns in the peninsula. Mopeds and bikes are never suggested since Turkish
motorists drive recklessly.
Although most people visit South Aegean in July and August, the weather is quite nice in June and September.
