Bareboat Charter Turkey: Bodrum, Göcek, Marmaris, Fethiye

Bareboat charter gives you the freedom to sail Turkey's Turquoise Coast on your own. No captain, no crew — just you, your guests, and the wind. From Bodrum to Göcek, from Marmaris to Fethiye, the southwest coast offers sheltered bays, ancient ruins, and crystal-clear water.

Turkey has become one of Europe's premier bareboat charter destinations. Modern marinas, well-maintained fleets (Beneteau, Bavaria, Jeanneau), and reliable yacht charter companies make it easy for experienced sailors to explore independently.

Insider Tip: The best time for bareboat charter is May-June and September-October. The weather is stable, winds are favorable (northwesterly at 12-20 knots), and marinas are less crowded than July-August.

Popular Bareboat Bases

Bodrum

Bodrum is the most popular bareboat base in Turkey. The marina is modern and well-equipped. From Bodrum, you can sail south to the Greek islands of Kos, Kalymnos, and Rhodes, or east along the Turkish coast to Gökova Bay and Marmaris. The prevailing Meltemi wind (northwesterly) makes for easy sailing. Bodrum's nightlife and restaurants are an added bonus.

Göcek

Göcek is a quieter base, ideal for sailors who want sheltered waters and scenic bays. The 12 Islands of Göcek offer short sailing distances between anchorages — perfect for families or less experienced bareboat crews. The marina is surrounded by pine forests. Dalaman Airport is only 20 minutes away.

Marmaris

Marmaris is another major base with a large marina and a wide selection of charter yachts. From Marmaris, you can sail to Bozburun, Datça, and the Greek island of Symi. The coastline here is dramatic, with pine-covered hills dropping into turquoise water. Marmaris is also well-connected to Fethiye and Göcek for one-way charters.

Fethiye

Fethiye is the easternmost major base. From here, you can sail to Ölüdeniz (the Blue Lagoon), Butterfly Valley, and the ancient ruins of Kayaköy. The bay is sheltered, and the scenery is spectacular. Fethiye is less crowded than Bodrum but still has good infrastructure.

What's Included in the Charter Fee

Included in the charter fee:

Not Included (Extra Costs)

Security Deposit: The security deposit is payable on arrival at your yacht. This deposit will be returned, less any deductions for loss, damage, breakages, or late return of your yacht, prior to you leaving Turkey. Take photos and video of the yacht during check-in and check-out to avoid disputes.

Sample Yacht Types Available

Turkey's bareboat fleets include a wide range of yachts. Older models (1990s-2000s) are more budget-friendly. Newer models (2015 and later) offer better amenities but cost more.

Sailing to Greece from Turkish Bases

Bodrum is the closest major port to the Greek islands. From Bodrum, you can sail to Kos (4-6 hours), Kalymnos, Leros, or even Rhodes. Marmaris is also well-positioned for sailing to Symi and Rhodes. Most charter companies allow you to visit Greek waters, but you must:

If you charter a sailing yacht in Greece, you can still visit the Turkish coast. Most yachts enter Turkish waters from the island of Kos. The procedures are similar but in reverse. Ask your charter company for guidance.
