Since 1995, Twarp has guided travelers to Turkey's hotels. Ölüdeniz is the postcard of the Turkish Riviera — the Blue Lagoon, the pine-covered mountains, and the paragliders drifting down from Babadağ. Stay right on the lagoon for the view, in Hisarönü or Ovacık for value and nightlife, or in Faralya and Kabak for a quieter, more adventurous stay. Here is how the areas compare.

Ölüdeniz sits in a small bay about 15 minutes from Fethiye (Fethiye). The lagoon and beach are the focal point, but the surrounding hills — Belcekız, Ovacık, Hisarönü, Faralya and Kabak — each offer a very different stay. Beachfront means views and convenience at a premium; the hills mean better value and, in Faralya, real tranquility.
Getting around: Dolmuş (minibuses) link Ölüdeniz, Hisarönü, Ovacık and Fethiye frequently in season, so you do not need a car unless you stay in Kabak or Faralya.
The strip along Belcekız beach puts the lagoon, the beach clubs and the paragliding landing zone on your doorstep. Expect the highest prices and the best views; book early for summer.
Up the hill, Hisarönü is the lively hub of bars and restaurants, with Ovacık next door. Hotels here are cheaper than the beachfront and the dolmuş runs down to the lagoon in minutes. Good for groups and nightlife.
South along the cliff road, Faralya and Kabak (Kabak) offer boutique hotels, treehouses and camps with views over the Butterfly Valley. This is the place for nature, hiking the Lycian Way and sunset peace — but you will want a car or arranged transfers.
For the lagoon and views, Belcekız beachfront; for value and nightlife, Hisarönü or Ovacık; for nature and quiet, Faralya or Kabak.
Not if you stay around Ölüdeniz, Hisarönü or Ovacık — dolmuş run frequently. A car helps in Faralya and Kabak.
Yes; the lagoon's calm water is ideal for children, though the beachfront gets crowded in high season. Çalış Beach near Fethiye is another family option.
